Golden VISA in Spain
Last April, the President of the Government of Spain announced the elimination of the so-called Golden Visa for real estate investors. That is, those non-residents who intend to obtain residency through the acquisition of one or more properties for a minimum total value of 500,000 euros will no longer be able to access this unique means of acquiring residency in Spain. Or at least they will not be able to do so once the Law that regulates obtaining residency by investment is modified. However, to date no regulation has yet been promulgated that repeals this unique way to obtain residency. Therefore, non-residents still have time to apply for residency in Spain through a real estate investment in the amount of 500,000 euros.
Although residency for real estate investment will probably disappear in the coming months, in view of the announcement by the President of the Government of Spain, there are other ways to obtain residency for investment that are not going to disappear. These are the other ways to invest in Spain to obtain residency:
- Investment of at least one million euros (€1,000,000) in shares of Spanish companies or bank deposits in Spanish financial institutions.
- Investment of at least two million euros (€2,000,000) in Spanish public debt.
- Investment in business projects that generate employment, have a relevant socioeconomic impact or contribute to scientific and technological innovation.
